Scouts gather for saint's day

SCOUTS, Beavers and Cubs from south Durham will mark St George's Day with a service at a Newton Aycliffe church on Sunday.

Many of the 273 members of the Bishop Auckland Scout District will be at St Elizabeth's Church, Woodham, for a 2pm service hosted by the 1st Newton Aycliffe Scout Group. Representatives from Wear Valley District and Great Aycliffe Town Councils will be attending.

District President Frank Willis, who holds a Silver Acorn in recognition of more than 50 years in Scouting, has been invited to a St George's Day service at Windsor, attended by the Queen and Prince Philip.

The Bishop Auckland Scout District has Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venture Scouts from the Bishop Auckland, Byers Green, Ferryhill and Sedgefield areas.
