Man convicted of lover's murder

From the archive, first published Tuesday 12th Sep 2006.

A MAN was last night convicted of the murder of a mother-of-five who was strangled to death in her home.

Peter Wyatt, 51, of Mansfield Avenue, Thornaby, Teesside attacked his lover Audrey Badger after a drunken argument at her home in Stirling Way, Thornaby.

Teesside Crown Court had heard how Mrs Badger, 42, suffered 14 bruises and abrasions to her head and neck, as well as numerous other injuries to her arms and legs.

Wyatt had admitted her killing, but denied her murder on February 11 this year.

However a jury decided he had attacked Mrs Badger with the intention of ending her life and convicted him of murder.

Jailing him, Judge Peter Fox, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, said he should serve a minimum of 14 years in prison before he be considered for release.
